“I founded Everybody Ballet after I retired as a First Soloist with the Royal Ballet Company. I had been dancing since I was 5 – starting out like every other little girl, in a slightly-chilly church hall somewhere.  I was very fortunate to have a professional career spanning 15 years: I have performed lead roles in much of the classical repertory from Swan Lake to Sleeping Beauty, dancing alongside such superstars as Tamara Rojo and Carlos Acosta. I will never forget performing Macmillan’s Song of the Earth with Darcey Bussell in her last performance at the Royal Opera House, and my final performance as Isadora to name a few stellar moments. When I left it was an unbelievable change – one minute I was pirouetting on the stage at Covent Garden and the next I was out there in the real world, trying to work out how to make it all balance. I wanted to keep a toe in so I came up with the idea of teaching adult ballet classes, and my business Everybody Ballet was born. Everything about EB’s adult ballet classes is geared towards giving people the chance to experience the best of classical ballet and the sheer joy of it and yet still be accessible: you don’t have to do the splits or fouette! Everybody Ballet is for, well, every body. Our classes are about learning to move with confidence and fluidity, about stretching and feeling the power in your body, and about getting lost in the beautiful music. A workout for the mind, body and soul. To add to the atmosphere, all the Everybody Ballet classes are taught by former or current Royal Ballet ballerinas.  Since EB launched 5 years ago we have grown in strength and numbers, expanding into yearly ballet retreats at the wonderful La Trasiera hotel in Spain, which offers a more immersive experience for those who want to jump right in.  I have just had my second son, and it’s a completely different balancing act – running a business and two small boys really keeps me on my toes. But I suppose I am used that…”
